Fuji Rock started in 1997 on the actual slopes of Mount Fuji, got hit by a typhoon on day one, and somehow that became the founding myth. The festival moved to Naeba Ski Resort in Niigata the following year and has been there ever since. What began as a scrappy outdoor experiment run by Smash Corporation has grown into the largest outdoor music event in Japan, but the bones of it are still the same: a mountain, a lot of mud potential, and a lineup that takes real risks.

The 2026 edition runs July 24 to 26. The Green Stage headliners this year are The xx, Massive Attack, and a Sunday closer that will make sense when you're standing there. Khruangbin play Friday evening. Mitski is on Saturday. Asian Kung-Fu Generation and Hi-STANDARD bring the Japanese rock contingent that Fuji Rock has always made room for alongside the international names. Fujii Kaze, Hyukoh, Arlo Parks, and Toro y Moi fill out a lineup that genuinely doesn't have a weak slot.

?FAQ

01

Where exactly is Naeba Ski Resort and how do I get there?

Naeba is in Yuzawa, Niigata Prefecture, about 90 minutes from Tokyo by Shinkansen to Echigo-Yuzawa Station, then a shuttle bus to the resort. The shuttle runs frequently during festival days. Driving is also an option but parking fills up fast, so the train is genuinely easier.

02

Is camping included with my ticket?

Camping is not automatically included in the ticket price. Camping passes are sold separately and tend to sell out before the main tickets do. If you're planning to camp on site, buy your camping pass at the same time as your festival pass. Off-site accommodation in Yuzawa town is also available.

03

What's the difference between the Friday Night Pass and the 1-Day Friday Pass?

The Friday Night Pass (¥16,000) gets you in from 5pm on July 24. The 1-Day Friday Pass (¥25,000) gives you full-day access from gates open at 10am. If you want to catch afternoon sets and the full evening program, go for the 1-Day. If you're coming straight from work in Tokyo, the Night Pass is the practical choice.

04

What should I pack for the festival?

Rain gear is non-negotiable. Naeba in July can go from blazing sun to a proper downpour in an hour. Waterproof boots or sturdy trail shoes are worth it. Bring a reusable water bottle (there are filling stations), sunscreen, and layers for the night. The grounds are large and mostly unpaved, so comfortable footwear matters more than it does at most festivals.

05

Are there age restrictions?

Fuji Rock is all-ages. Children under elementary school age enter free when accompanied by a ticket-holding adult. There are family-friendly areas and a dedicated kids' zone on site. That said, the late-night forest stages are adults-in-practice territory.
